Ecosystem Services Game Peer Assist - Camilla, Lucy, Vanessa, Abby, Ilse

  • Explained a bit about video game, using Game Design Document and teaser website

>

  • Discussed how game could have multiple goals:

Raise awareness about ecosystem services Drive traffic to WLE website Supplement materials and page that is tailored to needs of those wanting to know (e.g. teachers, students) Provide publications and information to show what ecosystem services research and landscape management is on the ground (case studies, videos) Encourage interest in research outputs Create or enhance online community on ecosystem services and landscape management >>

  • Exchanged ideas on who to get in touch with (partners, distributors, funders):

World Vision ambassadors Youth networks in developing countries Connect4Climate National Science Teachers' Association (US - Ilse's uncle) Geography Teacher's Union (US) CPWF Mekong (esp. those involved in Basin Challnege Game - King's College London) Need to think of more outreach opportunities in countries where WLE works Mireille from IWMI Business Development Unit Kickstarter and other crowdfunding channels (propose as fringe, innovative project, could also be a good awareness raising effort) other foundations that support Education maybe Business schools (PES angle) >>

  • Get feedback again from students and focus groups now that design is more developed

> Main take-away messages:

  • Reach out to teacher's unions and other potential 'users'
  • Maybe repurpose the idea - go back, turn the video game into a board game that can be played with farming communities
  • Aim for deeper impact rather than wider (play ---> site ----> factsheets -----> teaching modules, lessons, materials ---> publications etc.)
