In line with the wiki page and Monitoring Evaluation and Learning framework document of Livestock and Fish a small group of us (Evelyn Katingi, Tsehay Gashaw, Paul Karaimu, Ben Hack and Ewen Le Borgne) explored the Livestock and Fish impact pathway and MEL framework to see where could be opportunities to 'plan' KMC activities / inputs.

Here is the result of this exploratory brainstorming session:

  • There is an overall MEL framework as well as impact pathwasy and ToC for many components of the program
  • Like other CRPs, L&F aims to deliver to several IDOs contributing to 4 CGIAR SLOs
  • Delivery happens through value chain work (research and dev) and through IPGs (scaling up and spillover to other VCs)
  • Adaptive management at the core

Our opportunities:

  • Under KM

* § Internal communication to foster learning à Yammer, (team) meetings. * § Sharing lessons learnt à Contributing stories across value chain (production of news, monitoring toolkit), organization of events around this, perhaps surveys about use of L&F information. * § Culture of information exchange à improved capacity to do PKM better, updates on collab platforms, using open as default (documenting this), exchange of items on collab platforms (Yammer, wikis, stats/survey on this), contributions from key people (focal points and management), contributions to social learning initiatives etc. * § … Develop baseline. (Engagement and developing new ideas / new innovations; Adaptive management (organizing learning moments / events / online consultations); Data collection and management? Electronic archives etc.?

  • o Engagement and developing new ideas / new innovations + adaptive management.

§ Organizing learning moments / events / online consultations

  • o Evidence generation and use + Improved uptake of innovations

§ Publishing support § Networking and PKM to sharpen expertise field… § Policy engagement – more f2f involvement, more lobbying, more work through platforms

  • o Improved coordination along the value chains

§ Support in innovation platforms or other MSPs (engagement) § Field visits, study tours, learning events, identifying and writing about cross-VC lessons § Stronger role in coordination (of team meetings and partnerships) § Engagement around national value chain forums and boards + identify VC brokers § Training and CD around process/event facilitation and use of coordination platforms

  • o Assessments and process learning

§ Contributions to process documentation activities
